Red Bud, Ill. — Billy Seeley rushed for three touchdowns and 133 yards — nearly five times the rushing yardage the entire home team amassed — as visiting Casey defeated Red Bud 43-7 Saturday in an Illinois Class 2A high school football playoff game.
The top-seeded and unbeaten Warriors get a rematch with Little Illini Conference rival Marshall later this week in a quarterfinal contest; Casey’s 28-7 win in the season opener has been Marshall’s only loss.
Seeley had two touchdowns in the first quarter as the Warriors built a quick 14-0 lead, and added a third score in the third period. He gained his yardage on 28 carries.
Brett Livvix didn’t have to pass often for Casey, but was efficient when he did so. He completed 7 of 13 for 152 yards, including a scoring pass to Chris Unzicker.
Casey’s defense may have been even more impressive. Red Bud, a No. 9 seed when the tournament began, had 23 rushing plays — 19 by quarterback Jake Hoffman — for just 27 yards and didn’t score until the last two minutes of the game. Hoffman completed just 12 of 28 pass attempts for 132 yards.
