Prep roundup: Shakamak wins own Class A sectional


Shakamak defeated Clay City 3-1 to win the Class A Shakamak volleyball sectional on Saturday.

The Lakers won games three and four against the Eels decisively after Clay City had dominated the second game of the match.

Shakamak will play the winner of the Morristown Sectional at the South Decatur Regional at 11 a.m. next Saturday.

n Eels, Lakers advance — At Jasonville, Shakamak blanked Union 3-0, and Clay City topped White River Valley 3-1 in the semifinals of the Class A Sectional 57.

n Eastern Greene tops Linton — At Bloomfield, Eastern Greene defeated Linton in three sets Saturday to claim the Class 2A Bloomfield Sectional.

Football

n Casey, Marshall learn playoff fate — Casey and Marshall will both host games in the first round of the Class 2A IHSA playoffs next week.

Marshall (8-1) will play host to 6-3 Westville. The Lions are the No. 4 seed in their bracket. The top-seeded Warriors (9-0) will play 5-4 Alton Marquette.

Game times will be determined at a later date.

n Paris 42, Trenton-Wesclin 6 — At Paris, Ill., Levi Eslinger had 26 carries for 347 yards and four touchdowns to lead Paris to a season-ending victory Saturday against Trenton-Wesclin.

Quarterback Clay Bess completed both his pass attempts for touchdowns for a total of 96 yards.

John Irwin and Brandon Garcia led the Tigers’ defense with 10 tackles and nine tackles respectively.
