Prep Roundup: Four valley soccer players earn All-District VI honors

TERRE HAUTE — Four Wabash Valley high school soccer players earned All-District VI honors from the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association on Sunday.

Christina Haag of Sullivan, whose girls team plays Wednesday at the Mooresville Regional, was a first-team selection. Picked for the second team were Luke Lakstins of Terre Haute North and Drew Snyder of Northview in boys competition and Molly McKee of North in girls play.



Volleyball

• Knights cruise — At Danville, visiting Northview ended its regular season with a quick three-game victory over the host Warriors.

Highlights — For Northview, AIi Sharton had 13 assists, 4 kills, 2 digs and 4 aces; Brittaney Long had 8 kills, 6 digs and 2 aces; Hannah Hayes had 11 assists, 2 digs, a kill and an ace; Brylie Riddell had 6 kills, 3 digs, a block and five aces; Kaylee Clark had 6 digs, 2 kills and 5 aces; Ashlen Buck had 7 digs and a kill; Alyssa Clarke had 3 kills and a dig; Maxine West had 3 digs and a kill; Samantha Solomon had 3 kills; Stephanie McMains had 2 kills and a dig; Briana Cook had 2 assists and a dig; and Brailyn Whitson had a kill, an assist and an ace.

JV — Northview won 25-20, 25-21 and finished 15-8.

Next — Northview (24-9) plays Plainfield in Thursday’s second game at the Martinsville Sectional.



• Patriots win in three — At Terre Haute North, the host Patriots defeated Edgewood in three games for a school-record 23rd win this season.

It was Senior Night for Patriots Sara Baugh, Katie Behnke, Kelbie Drebes and Bri Hill.

Highlights — For North, Laura Mauer had 30 assists, 2 blocks, a kill, a dig and 11 points; Katlyn Anderson had 14 kills, a dig, 18 points and 3 aces; Mary Kate Etling had 12 kills, 4 digs, 18 points and 2 aces; Kelbie Drebes had 6 digs and 13 points; Katie Behnke had 4 digs, 11 points and an ace; Kristyn Moss had 2 kills, a dig, a block and 4 points; Sara Baugh had 5 kills and a block; Bri Hill had 4 kills and 2 digs; and Lauren Isaacs had 2 digs.

JV — North won 25-15, 25-12.

Next — North (23-5) plays Mooresville on Saturday at the Martinsville Sectional.

    For so many years, the road to the IHSAA girls tennis state finals for local teams ran through Vincennes (regional) and Jasper (semistate). In other words, south and more south.
    This year, their trip was re-routed through Greencastle (regional) and Center Grove (semistate). So it cnahged to east and more east.

    Robinson jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, then cruised to a convincing 12-3 victory over Greenville in a IHSA Class 2A Vandalia sectional semifinal game on Thursday.
    Ashlyn Sullivan was 2 for 3 with a double, home run and three RBIs to lead the winning Maroons.

    A late-season surge by South Vermillion wasn’t quite enough to halt a high school softball sectional winning streak by the host team Thursday night, as Edgewood got on top early and held on for a 5-2 win in the championship game of the Class 3A Edgewood Sectional.
    The loss was just the second in the last 12 games for the Wildcats. The Mustangs, however, haven’t lost a sectional softball game for eight years in a row.
