Seeger and Riverton Parke were the team winners in the Riverton Parke Invitational for cross country teams run Saturday morning in Parke County.
Riverton Parke, coached by Lee Hoopingarner, tallied 47 points to win the boys race.
“We’ve had this meet 19 years and it’s the first time for Riverton Parke to win,” said Charlie Martin, RP athletic director.
The Panthers had five runners in the top 24 and three in the top seven.
South Vermillion placed second with 62 points followed by Attica 90, Clay City 110, Seeger 121, Sullivan 122, Cloverdale 128 and North Vermillion 166.
Senior Dean Danner of North Central was the individual winner in 18:19. He also was the winner in the Thunderbirds’ only other meet this season.
Two Linton runners followed Danner at the finish: Janzen Franklin and Cole Riggleman.
Matt Haltom of Riverton Parke took fourth to lead the Panthers and Parker Ames of Clay City was fifth.
Seeger placed five runners in the top 12 to take first place in the girls race followed by Fountain Central 90, Clay City 101, Sullivan, 103 and South Vermillion 153 in the top five.
Junior Cara Fowler of Seeger was the individual winner in the time of 21 minutes, 9 seconds. She also won the event her freshman year.
“I did not run last year. I was ill,” she said, noting that she placed sixth in the Twin Lakes Camp run in her other meet so far this season.
Claudia Monnett of Cloverdale finished second and Becca Haussein of Seeger took third.
Starter for the meet was George Knezevich, who has served in that capacity for a long time.

Kehrt Award goes to Emily Bell, Lee Davis
Emily Bell of Terre Haute South and Lee Davis of Terre Haute North are the 2013 recipients of the Willard M. Kehrt Mental Attitude Award.
Bell and Davis were nominated by their schools and chosen in a vote by the Kehrt Award panel. Both will be recognized at awards assemblies later in the month at the schools.
Bell played varsity basketball four years at South and is competing in track this season, running the 800 and two relays. “I wanted something to do my senior year,” Bell said.
She plans to attend DePauw University and play basketball. DePauw is the reigning NCAA Division III champ in women's basketball.
Bell tore an AÇL playing in a basketball tournament the summer after her sophomore season. She missed most of her junior season but came back to play her senior year and was second leading scorer and leading rebounder her final season.
Bell also was leading rebounder her sophomore year. -
South softball's power display earns Braves share of MIC
