PREP ROUNDUP: South Putnam defeats Scecina in regional championship

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana University-bound senior Brooke Boetjer pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out six batters, to help South Putnam edge Indianapolis Scecina 1-0 in the Class 2A Indianapolis Scecina Regional championship game for high school softball Tuesday.

Kelsey Whitaker knocked in the only run for the Eagles, who have won all 28 games this season and 53 in a row dating back to last season when they won the state championship.

South Putnam will move on to the Forest Park Semistate, where it will face either Heritage Christian or Union County at 11 a.m. Saturday.

• Lakers win
— At Jasonville, Shakamak won the Class A Shakamak Sectional on Monday, the Lakers’ first since 2009.

The Lakers defeated Clay City 4-1 and Union 17-0 in five innings in the championship game.

The 24-6 Lakers will play University in the Morristown Regional. Indianapolis Lutheran meets Rising Sun in the other first-round game.

— At Rolling Meadows Course near Gosport, host Owen Valley defeated West Vigo 161-185 in their final regular-season match before the sectional.
