PREP ROUNDUP: RP rolls past Attica

CAYUGA — Riverton Parke jumped to a 20-point halftime lead and easily defeated Attica 59-34 in the Class A North Vermillion girls basketball sectional on Tuesday.

Paige Yando and Sarah Dickey paced the Panthers with 21 and 19 points, respectively.

Rockville topped Turkey Run 68-42 in the other sectional opening round game.

• North Knox defeated Linton 39-22 in the Class 2A Bloomfield sectional. No other details were available.

• Shakamak topped Union 39-18 in the Class A Clay City sectional. No other details were available.

• Marshall won over Vandalia 59-41 in the Illinois Class 2A Teutopolis regional. No other details were available.

Boys

• Marshall 62, Casey 46
— At Marshall, Ill., Jacob Duncan had 15 points and five rebounds to lead the Lions in Tuesday's contest.

The Lions improved to 18-6 with their second victory over the Warriors and assumed second place in the Little Illini Conference as both teams took 4-1 league marks into the game.

Marshall ran off nine unanswered points to close the first period and held a 20-7 lead after eight minutes. The Lions led by as many as 16 points in the second period and fronted 37-26 at the intermission.

Marshall's biggest lead was 50-30 and the host team was up 50-35 going into the final frame.

Following Duncan in the scoring column was Taylor Maurer with 14 points. He had eight of them in the first quarter.

Walker Berner and Logan Cannady each had 10 points for Marshall. Brandon Wolfe tallied 10 points to lead the 12-10 Warriors. Drew Bolin had nine points and Trivette Scales added eight to the totals.

    The loss was just the second in the last 12 games for the Wildcats. The Mustangs, however, haven’t lost a sectional softball game for eight years in a row.
