PREP ROUNDUP: Mahurin scores 32 as Rox roll past South Vermillion

ROCKVILLE — Lane Mahurin scored 32 points to lead Class A No. 2-ranked Rockville to a 90-52 home win against South Vermillion in boys high school basketball Saturday.

Gary Ulrich added 18 points for the Rox, while Jordon McFall and Nick Waltz had 14.

Nathan Luft led the Wildcats with 13 points.

• Sullivan 59, Greencastle 32 — At Greencastle, Sullivan bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 59-32 rout of host Greencastle on Saturday night.

The Golden Arrows (4-1) won the opening tip and never trailed in the contest take as 26-11 halftime lead. Sullivan led 46-18 going into the fourth quarter.

Michael Hutchcraft led Sullivan’s balanced attack with 14 points and nine rebounds, followed by Nathan Pirtle with 11 points and Michael Willis with 10.

• Mount Zion 59, Paris 42 — At Paris, Ill., Mount Zion shot 50 percent in the first period to assume a 23-15 lead in Friday's game.

• Bloomfield 72, Clay City 66 — At Bloomfield, the Cardinals rallied to win the SWIAC game Friday.

The Eels led 22-17 after one period, trailed 36-35 at halftime and took a 48-46 lead into the final frame.

Blake Cesinger led the Eels with 29 points, hitting 14 of 15 free throws. Ben Hays had 19 for Bloomfield.

n South sweeps — At Terre Haute South, the host Braves swept a pair of meets from visiting Bloomington South on Friday.

Grace Padget set a school record in the 100 backstroke in 59.19 seconds and was a multiple winner along with Katherine Senseman, Hannah Stelflug, Taylor Schilling and Rachel Senseman as the South girls won 105-81.

    But if there were no excuses forthcoming from Kirchner and his Terre Haute North High School softball team, it wouldn’t have been hard to find a spectator or two to come up with extenuating circumstances about the Patriots’ 4-1 loss at the Class 4A Martinsville Sectional.

    Host Terre Haute South kept its Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference high school baseball title hopes alive — and clinched no worse than second place in the process — by downing Lawrence North 4-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday night.
    The second game, which started after Senior Night festivities between games, ended past the Tribune-Star deadline.
