PREP ROUNDUP: North upsets 18th-rated tennis team

INDIANAPOLIS — Terre Haute North got singles victories from Anna Potter, Laura Mascari and Morgan Cook en route to edging No. 18-ranked Delta 3-2 in girls high school tennis played on Ben Davis’ courts Tuesday.

Singles — Anna Potter (THN) def. Ashley Loffer 6-2, 6-3; Laura Mascari (THN) def. Madi Ashman 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 tiebreaker; Morgan Cook (THN) def. Callie Worthington 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Doubles — Natalie Alexander-Marissa Morris (D) def. Olivia Caldwell-Caroline Potter 6-2, 6-1; Taghan Dishman-Lynne Costello (D) def. Lynsey Stoick-Kim Zigler 6-4, 6-1.

JV — North won 7-4.

Next — North (7-2) will play in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference championships May 5 at Ben Davis.

• Seeger 3, West Vigo 2 — At West Lebanon, West Vigo almost posted its first victory of the season, getting singles triumphs from Abby Williams at No. 2 and Allyson Walters at No. 3.

— At West Vigo, Terre Haute North swept the relays and TaPring Goatee ran a personal-best time of 59.91 in the 400 meters.

Chanli Mundy also ran a personal best time of 5:13 in the 1,600, and Brianna Burgess had a personal best throw of 103-4 in the discus.

Janelle Lucas of West Vigo won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles in times of 17.6 and 49.43.

• Two ranked second — Two Wabash Valley teams are ranked second in this week’s poll.

— At Rea Park, Linton defeated two teams to improve to 8-0 in nine-hole matches.

The Miners shot 156 followed by West Vigo with 187 and White River Valley with 229. Eamon Eccles of Shakamak also competed as an individual and shot 44.

Cole Bradbury of Linton was medalist with par-36 and teammate Luke Jerrells shot 37. Brandon Long carded 44 and Nick Leek 45 to pace the host Vikings and Cody Hershman had 49 for WRV.
