Terre Haute South High School’s volleyball season ended when Martinsville defeated the Braves 25-18, 25-10, 18-25, 25-13 in a Saturday morning semifinal match in the Class 4A Plainfield Sectional.

Highlights — For South, Brittney Pink had 17 kills, Maddie Callahan had 12 kills, Ashley Bazier had 34 assists, Marissa Coutinho had 22 digs and Saya Harazaki had 11 digs.
Records — South finished 17-14. Martinsville took a 28-4 mark into the sectional championship match Saturday night.

• Riverton Parke wins title — At Covington, Sara Dickey posted 16 kills and served 11 points to help Riverton Parke win a sectional championship for the second year in a row as the Panthers defeated Rockville 25-13, 25-20, 25-22 in the final match.
In the semifinal match earlier Saturday, Riverton Parke swept North Vermillion 25-11, 25-15, 25-17.
Riverton Parke will visit Frontier for the regional championship Tuesday.

• Clay City 3, Union 0 — At Clay City, host Clay City swept Union 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 at the Clay City Sectional. The Eels played White River Valley in Saturday’s title showdown.
• WRV 3, Shakamak 1 — At Clay City, the Wolverines prevailed in a marathon match in a Clay City Sectional semifinal. WRV won 26-28, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20.
• Rockville 3, Turkey Run 0 — At Covington, the Rox swept the Warriors 25-21, 25-6, 25-17 in a Covington Sectional semifinal. Rockville played rival Riverton Parke in Saturday’s title match.
Class 2A sectional
• Linton 3, North Knox 1 — At Solsberry, the Miners rallied to win the final two games over North Knox to advance to Saturday night’s 2A Eastern Greene Sectional championship match. Linton won 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-19. The Miners played host Eastern Greene in the title match.
Class 3A sectional
• Brown County 3, South Vermillion 0 — At Spencer, South Vermillion’s season came to an end as Brown County prevailed 25-14, 25-7, 25-13 in an Owen Valley Sectional semifinal.
Brown County played Edgewood in the title match Saturday night.
Football
• North Central 20, Turkey Run 7 — At Farmersburg, Justin Burris and Dillon Bailey took up the slack for injured Chase VanSchyock as the Thunderbirds survived an upset bid by the visiting Warriors on Friday in Class A Sectional 38.
VanSchoyck, the state’s No. 2 rusher, was cleared to play but was held out for precautionary reasons, coach Travis Nolting reported.
Burris, with 209 yards in 20 carries, and Bailey, with 175 yards in 15 tries, made sure VanSchoyck wasn’t missed all that much. Bailey had two touchdowns, Burris one.

• Indianapolis Cathedral 62, Northview 0 — At Indianapolis, No. 7-ranked Cathedral held the Knights scoreless while playing a home game on Lawrence North’s field.
Cathedral (5-5) will visit Lebanon in the second round next weekend. Northview ended up 3-7.
Indiana Class 2A sectional
• Indianapolis Ritter 62, South Vermillion 14 — At Indianapolis, No. 1-ranked Ritter outlasted the visiting Wildcats to end their season.
Tanner Manlove had a 97-yard kickoff return for one South Vermillion touchdown and Tanner Akers had 84 yards rushing and the other Wildcat TD.
Ritter (10-0) will play host to Speedway next weekend. South Vermillion finished 2-8.
Indiana Class A sectionals
• North Vermillion 58, Covington 6 — At Covington, the visiting Falcons remained undefeated with a convincing victory.
Kody Zumwalt rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns and Bryden Woodard had 100 yards rushing with two touchdowns and also threw three touchdown passes.
North Vermillion (10-0) will play host to North Central next weekend. Covington concluded its season at 2-8.
• Cloverdale 44, Riverton Parke 22 — At Mecca, the visiting Clovers won the battle of previously winless teams.
Cloverdale (1-9) will play host to Attica next weekend. Riverton Parke was 0-10.
• Attica 28, Rockville 0 — At Attica, the host Red Ramblers emerged triumphant in a Wabash River Conference rematch.
Attica (7-3) will travel to Cloverdale next weekend. Rockville finished 4-6.
• North Daviess 40, Union 12 — At Dugger, North Daviess earned the right to move in the state tournament.
North Daviess (4-6) will visit Tecumseh next weekend. Union concluded its campaign at 2-8.
Illinois
• Casey 32, Marshall 0 — At Casey, the No. 2-ranked Class 2A Warriors put the wraps on their seventh unbeaten season in nine years Friday night.
Dalton Livvix rushed for 145 yards and scored four times on runs 1, 15, 52 and 13 yards. Ajave Meeks scored once and rushed for 71 yards.
Brock Hook netted 102 yards rushing for the Lions.

Dakota Scott led the host team with 65 yards on 20 carries. The Bluestreaks finished 2-7 and 2-5 in the Little Okaw Valley Conference.
• Robinson 46, Edwards County 14 — At Robinson, the Maroons solidified their playoff berth as Jason Richart rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries and Blake Hale added 101 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Robinson finished the regular season 6-3, Edwards County 1-8.
• Illinois pairings set — Pairings have been made for the Illinois high school football playoffs.

Kehrt Award goes to Emily Bell, Lee Davis
Emily Bell of Terre Haute South and Lee Davis of Terre Haute North are the 2013 recipients of the Willard M. Kehrt Mental Attitude Award.
Bell and Davis were nominated by their schools and chosen in a vote by the Kehrt Award panel. Both will be recognized at awards assemblies later in the month at the schools.
Bell played varsity basketball four years at South and is competing in track this season, running the 800 and two relays. “I wanted something to do my senior year,” Bell said.
She plans to attend DePauw University and play basketball. DePauw is the reigning NCAA Division III champ in women's basketball.
Bell tore an AÇL playing in a basketball tournament the summer after her sophomore season. She missed most of her junior season but came back to play her senior year and was second leading scorer and leading rebounder her final season.
