Pirtle reaches 1,000-point mark in Union girls win

Makaylee Pirtle needed a few minutes to get from 999 career points to the 1,000-point mark in girls high school basketball Monday night, but still finished with a game-high 22 points in leading Union to a 53-50 win over visiting South Knox.

Pirtle, who entered the game with 998 points, hit an early free throw but then missed three in a row from the line plus some shots from the field before finally reaching her milestone late in the second quarter.

Megan Gambill and Ashli Scott picked up the slack in the meantime, scoring 14 and 12 points respectively for the Bulldogs. Two more Scotts, Samantha and Amber, had 17 and 13 points to lead the Spartans.

Kelsey Anderson had 24 points and Stephanie Fougerousse 23 for Class A’s seventh-ranked winners, while Carmella Roeschlein had 12 points and Brielle Drelick 11 for the Eels.
