PREP ROUNDUP: Sullivan volleyball rallies after first-game loss to Greencastle

SULLIVAN — Sullivan got 13 kills and 11 digs from Bailee Powell as the Golden Arrows rallied to defeat Greencastle 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 27-25 in high school volleyball Wednesday.

Highlights — For Sullivan, Bailee Powell had 13 kills and 11 digs; Abigail Hornback had 9 kills and 12 digs; Jackie Bezy had 9 kills; Taylor Shake had 34 assists; Jaleigh Gilham had 24 digs, 15 points and 7 aces; and Sydney Chapman had 13 points and 7 aces.

JV — Greencastle won 25-22, 25-24.

Next — Sullivan (2-3) will be at home today to take on South Vermillion.

• North Central 4, West Vigo 1 — At West Terre Haute, Blake Benefiel was the sole winner for the Vikings at No. 3 singles as the Thunderbirds controlled the match.

Benefiel won 6-1, 6-1. North Central’s No. 1 doubles team of Parker Drake and Chaz Childs also won 6-1, 6-1.

    Hurdlers Cam Stewart and Cole Seward and discus thrower Lee Davis were the winners for North, enabling the Patriots to finish with 60 points to 59 for the Braves.

    Terre Haute North burst through that crack in the bottom of the second inning Wednesday evening at Terre Haute South, scoring seven two-out runs and going on to a surprisingly easy 12-2 victory over the host Braves.

    The Vikings scored four runs in the first inning of the first sectional game and went on to defeat Brown County 10-0 in five innings with Kevin Stewart hurling a two-hitter.

    The second game, which started after Senior Night festivities between games, ended past the Tribune-Star deadline.
