Sullivan Hospital joins Valley health initiative

SULLIVAN — The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Regional Hospital and Union Hospital, recently welcomed Sullivan County Community Hospital as a supporting partner in its Better Health Wabash Valley Initiative.

This important communitywide initiative has been charged with identifying the needs that are most pressing in the Wabash Valley and helping to identify and develop programming to improve the overall health of the community.

“Better Health Wabash Valley is very excited to have the Sullivan County Community Hospital as a partner in this important regional initiative,” said Ken Baker, BHWV chairman and Human Resources director at AET. “Their commitment allows BHWV to develop long-term, broad-reaching, communitywide solutions to address the important wellness issues that both businesses and individuals throughout the Wabash Valley face everyday.”

Michelle Smith, CEO of Sullivan County Community Hospital, said, “We felt the project was a beneficial partnership because we will most likely be working on common goals and creative approaches to solving problems can be discussed and implemented on a broad level.”

Established in 2009, BHWV’s membership includes leaders from many sectors of the Wabash Valley community. In 2012, BHWV launched the Community Health Needs Assessment and made it available for public use. The CHNA was the result of collaboration between the two largest healthcare providers in the Wabash Valley, Union Hospital and Regional Hospital, along with the Chamber and its BHWV Initiative. The CHNA took nearly six months to complete and includes data from six Indiana counties: Clay, Greene, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo. The CHNA can be accessed at www.terrehautechamber.com.
