College to offer fitness classes beginning in January

ROBINSON, Ill. —

Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Ill., will offer a variety of classes to help area residents spring into shape after the New Year.

For those who want to tap their feet while their burning calories, Richard Fear’s Country Line Dance offers fun and fitness. The course will meet Wednesdays.

Zumba Gold will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays in the Lincoln Grade School gym. Enrollees can dance away the pounds during this slightly toned-down version of the popular workout that fuses Latin music and dance moves. Dee Lingafelter will teach the course.

Also, three sessions of Aqua Aerobics will be offered this spring.

Stretch a variety of muscles during Tri Fitness, which features lap swimming, spinning and additional training. Enrollees will have access to the Ragon-Parker Fitness Center on South Cross Street in Robinson as well as the LTC pool. Participants will log their workouts as part of this arranged course.

Tae kwon do and Karate for Kids are also available to keep young and old in tip-top condition.

College credit is offered for those 14 and older. In-district students may be eligible for an Illinois Eastern Community Colleges night-time tuition discount if they are registered in four evening credit hours or less. Students not eligible to receive college credit may take the class on a non-credit basis. Cost is $80.

Two other fitness staples — Circuit Fitness Training and Advanced Circuit Fitness Training — will also be offered for college credit.

Lincoln Trail College at Robinson, Ill., is now accepting students for spring semester certified nurse’s aide courses.

The Basic Nurse Assistant Training certificate program is a concentrated lecture and laboratory program designed to meet the Illinois Department of Public Health certification training requirements. The program provides an introduction to the basic components of the health-care skills essential to the support and assistance of individuals and families in meeting basic human needs for people of all ages. Certificate graduates may sit for the state exam and, upon successful completion, may find employment in long-term care facilities and home health care situations. Completion of the CNA certification is a prerequisite for the nursing program.

Requirements for the program include the Compass Test, a livescan fingerprint background check, CPR training and two-step TB Test. All fees will be paid by the student.
