PARIS, IL —
Leslie Brown, RN, BSN, WCC, recently completed her certification in diabetic wound care through the National Alliance of Wound Care and the Wound Care Education Institute.
Brown, a wound care certified nurse, manages the Wound Care Center at Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center. She earned her general wound care certification several years ago. Her new certification adds experience with diabetes.
“It’s something I always wanted to do for my personal growth,” she said. “It allows me to keep current with trends that are occurring in diabetic wound care management.”
Brown said she was able to further her nursing education thanks to a healthcare scholarship she received from the Paris Community Hospital Volunteers. She was one of three area students to receive $1,000 scholarships for the 2012-2013 school year.
“I am very grateful to the PCH Volunteers,” Brown said. “It means a lot to me that they considered me in their annual scholarship awards.”
The diabetic wound care certification program focuses on overall diabetic wound care and promotion of an optimal wound healing environment. It teaches prevention, as well as therapeutic and rehabilitative interventions. Approximately 6 million Americans each year suffer problem wounds caused by diabetes, circulatory problems and many other conditions.
