TERRE HAUTE — Parkinson’s disease currently afflicts an estimated 1.5 million Americans. But its effects extend to many more people.
The impact of the brain disorder on loved ones and friends will be the topic of the Terre Haute Parkinson’s Support Group meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in Westminster Village at 1120 Davis Drive.
Union Hospital physical therapist Neely Quist-Loheide will discuss “Who Cares for the Caregiver?” at the session. Quist-Loheide has served at Union for 11 years, and is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, with a special interest in neurology. She’s a graduate of the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Parkinson’s causes tremors, rigid muscles, slow movement and imbalance. There is no known cure, but treatments and medications can limit and delay its progress.
The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the support group organizer, retired Terre Haute minister Loyal Bishop, at (812) 232-3207 or (812) 239-1900.
