Learn about integrative medicine at talk

TERRE HAUTE — The Maple Center for Integrative Health will present “Is It My Hormones, Doc? Integrative Medical Approaches for Thyroid, Low T, Menopause and Adrenal (energy)” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Atrium Classroom (lower level, north side) at Union Hospital, 1606 N. Seventh St.

Dr. Kathleen A. Stienstra will discuss integrative medical approaches to thyroid problems, midlife hormone changes for men and women, and adrenal fatigue or insufficiency.

Many people have symptoms of low thyroid but the standard blood test — TSH — is normal. Learn why this isn’t the whole story and how additional testing will often reveal problems that can be effectively treated. People who have been treated for thyroid problems but feel worse may have adrenal fatigue or insufficiency. Lack of energy can also be a prominent symptom of adrenal problems.

Testing to accurately diagnose can be followed by a variety of ways to support adrenal function.

Individualized bio-identical hormone treatments, herbs, acupuncture and lifestyle changes can ease the passage through midlife and beyond for both men and women. Learn how the body can convert testosterone to estrogen, compounding problems, and how to reverse it. Hot flashes and other symptoms of estrogen reduction can be effectively addressed.

Dr. Stienstra practices integrative medicine and medical acupuncture at the Maple Center. She is board certified in family medicine and integrative/holistic medicine.
