The Office of Recreational Sports at ISU is offering programs to residents of the Wabash Valley. Among the programs are:
• American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program includes swim lessons for anyone ages 6 months through adult, and all skill levels from beginner to advanced swimmers.
• Our Youth Swimming Lessons include parent/child levels which familiarize young children ages 6 months to 3 years with the water with parental assistance. The Preschool Aquatics Level gives children ages 3 to 5 years their first experience in the water without parental assistance.
Also offered are American Red Cross Levels 1 through 4. A Saturday session will be offered beginning Sept. 11, and a Sunday session that begins Sept. 12. These sessions will run for 4 weeks.
Private lessons are offered for interested parties who cannot fit group lessons into their busy schedules or who just prefer one-on-one instruction. Private lessons are scheduled between the participant and the assigned instructor according to both of their schedules and the open Student Recreation Center pool hours (Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays noon to 9 p.m).
The cost is $30 per participant, per session for group lessons; private lessons are $80 for four 45-min. sessions or six 30-min. sessions; or $110 for six 45-min. sessions or nine 30-min. sessions.
• American Red Cross Certification Programs:
A number of American Red Cross certification courses are offered, including Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid, Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguarding Instructor. All participants must be at least 16 years old on the date of the training course.
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Full Course (Price: $50) – Wednesday, Sept. 8 and 15 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 3 from noon to 8 p.m.; and Tuesday, Nov. 9 and 16 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Re-certification Course (Price: $30) – Sunday, Sept. 19 from noon to 4 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 21 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 20 from noon to 4 p.m.
• Sports Safety Training/Standard First Aid (Price: $30) – Saturday, Sept. 25 from noon to 4 p.m.; and Wednesday, Nov. 17 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• Water Safety Instructor Course and Lifeguarding Instructor Course (Price: $150) – Classes are arranged (must have a minimum of three participants)
