HealthSource to host canned-food drive

TERRE HAUTE — HealthSource Chiropractic and Progressive Rehab is hosting a “Christmas in July” canned-food drive through July 31 to help replenish local food banks and shelters.

HealthSource doctors are offering free community service health screenings in exchange for canned food/non-perishable donations.

The 19-point screenings can help track down even the smallest amounts of pain, including those suffering from a wide range of problems such as low back pain, headaches, neck pain, shoulder or arm pain, bulging or herniated discs, leg pain, numbness and more. Even X-rays will be included if necessary.

“Many people don’t realize that this can be one of the toughest times of the year for the local food banks and shelters. We tend to forget about those in need outside of the holiday season. Even though we’re still half-a-year away from the holidays, we thought an early celebration could help jump-start the collections for local food donations,” said Chris Tomshack, HealthSource CEO.

Donations will be collected at  from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at HealthSource locations — North: 1826 N. Lafayette Ave., and South: 4320 S. Seventh St.

Food banks across the country are reporting a record number of Americans seeking food this year. The USDA reported in November 2009 that an estimated 49 million people, including 17 million children are at risk of hunger.

To find out more about this year's “Christmas in July” canned-food drive, contact HealthSource at either one of their locations: North (812) 460-1200 or South (812) 299-7000.
