TERRE HAUTE —
For a breastfeeding mom and her hungry child amidst the bustling crowd, a Lactation Station is a haven.
The Breastfeeding Coalition of the Wabash Valley will sponsored a Lactation Station at the Vigo County Fair through Saturday. Located in the Commercial Building, a tent will provide an area of comfort and privacy for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
An informational display and literature will be available to interested persons at the Lactation Station. Coalition members will volunteer in the evenings to staff the area and talk with fairgoers about the Coalition’s activities and to promote the natural benefits of mother’s milk.
A guestbook had the following entries by users of the first Lactation Station at the 2009 Vigo County Fair: “Great idea,” “Awesome,” “Finally,” “Fabulous.”
In 2009, with a grant from the Indiana Perinatal Network, the Breastfeeding Coalition of the Wabash Valley was formed to promote and to encourage breastfeeding in Vigo and surrounding counties. Meetings are on the first Monday of each month.
