Car seat checkup set for Saturday at Dollar Tree

TERRE HAUTE —

CHANCES for Indiana Youth is teaming up with Dollar Tree on Indiana 46 in Terre Haute to help parents and caregivers make sure their child safety seats are properly installed in their vehicles.

Certified technicians will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Dollar Tree by the eastside Walmart.

Parents should bring their child and their car seat to the checkup. Technicians can evaluate the seat to be sure it is appropriate for the child and safe to use, and make sure the seat is properly installed in the vehicle.

Seventy-three percent of car seats are not being used correctly. To find out why, Safe Kids analyzed data from more than 100,000 car seat inspections. The data revealed that parents and caregivers still have some work to do to ensure their children are restrained properly.

“Many parents don’t realize that a child needs to be in an appropriate car seat until their eighth birthday according to Indiana Law,” said Alia Hazel, certified child passenger safety technician.
