Bariatric surgery focus of free seminar
At 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, the IU Surgical Weight Management Center at Wishard invites the public to attend a free educational seminar about bariatric surgery, a medical procedure used to help those struggling with severe obesity to achieve lasting weight loss. The seminar will take place at the Holiday Inn, 3300 S. US Highway 41, just south of I-70 in Terre Haute. The Key Program is a free 3-hour educational seminar covering:
• Requirements to be a candidate for surgery
• Surgical procedures
• The hospital stay
• Risks and benefits of surgery
• Postoperative diet
• Lifestyle changes
• Insurance issues
As the first in Indiana to perform a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure, in July 2001, the IU Surgical Weight Management Center at Wishard offers a comprehensive approach to care for patients with severe obesity.
The Center for Comprehensive Weight Management at Wishard utilizes a team approach for patients battling obesity, including medical supervision, surgical intervention for qualified candidates, counseling and support groups, nutrition education and lifestyle modification.
Space in the Key Program in Terre Haute is limited; interested persons must call to register.
Prospective patients are welcome to bring family members and friends. To register and for directions to the seminar, please call 1-877-663-0082. Information is also available at www.IUBariatrics.org.
