TERRE HAUTE — The Maple Center at 1801 N. Sixth St., Suite 600 is offering clinical integrative/holistic treatments to breast cancer patients who are currently in treatment and to those who have completed treatment. Patients diagnosed with cancer or chronic illnesses are invited to attend the tai chi and yoga classes for a minimal fee.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure grant funding is available for costs that are not covered by insurance for the following clinical offerings to those who are in treatment.
Acupuncture: For the prevention or treatment of nausea/vomiting associated with chemotherapy and for help with pain related to breast cancer. Acupuncture is offered by Kathleen Stienstra, MD, intergrative family doctor and licensed acupuncturist with The Maple Center.
Physical therapy/Chinese techniques: For pain, weakness and stiffness related to breast cancer treatment, Sandra Hendrich, DPT, physical therapist with The Maple Center, offers PT and manual therapies including those she learned during special training in China.
Music therapy: For managing stress in a healthy way, developing methods of self-care and coping with illness. Tracy Richardson, MS, MT-BC offers music therapy to breast cancer patients who are in treatment.

Tai chi for patients/survivors diagnosed with cancer or chronic illnesses takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Thursday through Dec. 17 at the Hux Cancer Center, North 61⁄2 and Beech streets, north of Union Hospital.
Yoga for patients/survivors diagnosed with cancer or chronic illnesses take place on Saturdays on Nov. 14 through Dec. 19, 2009, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hux Cancer Center.
