TERRE HAUTE — Senior Education Ministries Inc. has partnered with Comfort Keepers to offer the senior community an opportunity to learn to seek, read and find resources to enhance daily living.
The free “Seek, Read and Find” program is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first Thursday of every month in the Vigo County Public Library.
Michelle Mayer from the Indiana Attorney General’s Office is the featured speaker for “Seek, Read and Find” on Nov. 5.
Mayer graduated from Indiana University with a degree in journalism and political science. She serves as the outreach services supervisor for the Consumer Protection Division in the Office of the Indiana Attorney General. She oversees a new initiative in the office to bring consumer protection services directly into communities throughout the state.
She will discuss what the Attorney General’s Office does to ensure Hoosiers’ safety, including the following services and programs to protect seniors against fraud and other crimes:
n Telemarketing fraud: Sign up for the Do Not Call list to reduce your risk of fraud and scams;
n Identity theft: Avoid falling prey to America’s fastest growing crime by using the prevention tools provided by the office;
n Consumer fraud: Utilize consumer tips and alerts from the office to help deter consumer fraud and elder financial exploitation;
n Patient abuse: Help combat abuse and neglect of Hoosier patients in residential care facilities by reporting it to the office.
Amy Summer also will be on hand to help you determine if you have unclaimed money, another service provided by the attorney general.
A light lunch will be served and you’ll have the chance to win door prizes donated by Senior Education Ministries, Comfort Keepers and Body Balance Chiropractic and Fitness.
