Gladiator Challenge set for Saturday
Union Hospital’s Center for Fitness and Performance will host the 3rd Annual Gladiator Challenge on Saturday. The Gladiator Challenge moves this year to downtown Terre Haute and the 6th Annual Clabber Girl Brickyard BBQ Festival at Wabash Avenue and Cherry Street.
The 5k run will start at 8 a.m., followed by two rounds of pumpfest action at 10 a.m. and the Strongman Competition starts at noon. The BBQ festival will showcase the best BBQ in town, a beer garden, great music and a car show.
Union Hospital will help sponsor the BBQ festival. “Nothing beats a summer festival,” said James Twitchell, UH community liaison. “Union Hospital is happy to be a part of the BBQ festival this year and we think that BBQ and our annual Gladiator Challenge will be a recipe for success.” Gladiator Challenge proceeds benefit the National Guard. Brickyard BBQ proceeds benefit the United Way.

Alliance on Mental Illness to meet
The National Alliance on Mental Illness Wabash Valley affiliate will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today in the Memorial United Methodist Church at 2701 Poplar St. in Terre Haute.
The group’s primary function is to improve the lives of people afflicted by serious and persistent mental illness. Family and friends are also encourage to attend.
Dr. Shahzad Parvaz with Wabash Valley Psychiatry LLC will be the featured speaker. Parvaz’s presentation will deal with mental health issues, treatment, along with question and answer segment. Highlighted will be the various types of depression.
