Terre Haute Community Health Fair set

TERRE HAUTE — The Terre Haute Community Health Fair will be conducted from 1 to 5 p.m. on Feb. 17 at the Terre Haute Boys and Girls Club, 924 N. 13th St.

The health fair is a free annual event to educate residents about individual health and how to make improvements. Medical students started the fair in 2005 as a service project to use their growing medical knowledge and give back to the community.

The health fair has grown to be an annual event now organized by the medical students at Indiana University School of Medicine–Terre Haute.

This year’s event will include more than 60 exhibitors and screeners, all with information regarding important medical issues, prevention and treatment.

Exhibitors will include the Alzheimer’s Association, heart education, breast cancer awareness, chiropractic information, the National Kidney Foundation and Union Hospital. There will be kids’ activities, raffles and free snacks and beverages.

The health fair targets individuals, regardless of income and insurance status. In addition to the information about local organizations and services, the health fair will offer educational exhibits about personal health, fitness classes, massage therapy and free health screenings.

Free screenings this year include blood pressure, blood sugar, blood typing and cholesterol, depression, hearing, vision and glaucoma. The Blood Mobile from the Indiana Blood Center will be at the event.
