Dine with a Doc coming up in Greencastle

GREENCASTLE — Senior Education Ministries Inc. has scheduled its next Dine with a Doc from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 30 at First National Bank, 1128 Indianapolis Road, in Greencastle.

This month’s guest is Dr. Jean Yacoub of Providence Medical Group in Terre Haute, who specializes in cardiovascular medicine.

Yacoub will discuss congestive heart failure, the condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to the body’s other organs. He will discuss who’s at risk, causes for the disease, symptoms, treatment options, prescriptions, how diet and exercise can affect someone who has congestive heart failure, and detail preventative measures.

Cardiologists specialize in diseases of the heart, lungs and blood vessels and manage complex cardiac conditions such as heart attacks and life-threatening abnormal heart beat rhythms. Cardiologists also perform complicated diagnostic procedures such as cardiac catheterization and consult with surgeons on heart surgery.

A question/answer period will follow his discussion.

Brunch will be provided by Putnam County Hospital. There will be an opening prayer. Health care providers will be present to share information about their services and provide door prizes.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 877-223-6109.

For more information, call 812-230-7772 or email loriaplin@gmail.com.

The Dine with a Doc - Terre Haute program will not meet in January at the Wabash Senior Center. The next scheduled program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 27 with guest Karen Grissom, RN, BSN, CEN.

Grissom will discuss risk factors for heart disease, how to decrease risk factors, what to expect if you go to an emergency room with chest pain, how diabetes relates to heart disease and special considerations for women with heart disease.

Lunch will be provided by Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Dine with a Doc - Terre Haute is normally scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of every month.
