Healthcare Career Night scheduled for Nov. 1

PARIS, Ill. — Choosing a career path can be a challenge. To help individuals better understand the career options available to them, Paris Community Hospital/Family Medical Center, in cooperation with the University of Illinois Extension Office, will host a free healthcare career night from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1 at the hospital.

The third annual event, “Your Future Career Starts Here,” is for high school students and for returning adult students who are interested in a career in healthcare.

“We tweaked the format for this year’s event,” said Susan Livvix, PCH/FMC chief nursing officer. “Instead of just appealing to high school kids, we want to also include returning adult students.”

The event will begin with a “Healthcare Sampling” panel discussion. The panel will represent a wide variety of healthcare careers. Following the presentation, participants may choose to attend additional panel discussions on “Adult Returning Students in Healthcare” and “Under the Radar Health Careers.” As in past years, participants can also opt to participate in an open house of hospital departments. Refreshments will also be available.

“Each year we try to put a new spin on the event,” said Livvix. “Even if you came last year or the year before, I would encourage you to attend.”

Residents of Edgar and Clark counties, as well as Oakland, are invited to attend. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children at the event.

Those interested in attending must register for the event at web.extension.illinois.edu/cce. Registration deadline is Monday. For more information, call Lauren Stolz, executive assistant, at 217-465-2606 ext. 277.
