Business leaders from the Wabash Valley will convene for a special event on Jan. 30 in Indiana State University Hulman Center to learn more about the crisis of premature birth in the community and the impact businesses can have on helping babies be born stronger and healthier.
The Corporate Leadership Event begins at 7:30 a.m.
Business leaders from throughout the Wabash Valley will discuss the fact that premature birth is the most urgent infant health problem in the community today. It affects more than half a million babies each year, more than 11,000 in Indiana, with the number growing every day.
According to the March of Dimes, the direct health care cost to employers for the first year of a premature baby’s life is almost 11 times higher than for a full term baby. Babies who are born too soon or sick usually spend weeks or even months in the hospital and they often have to cope with lifelong health problems or disabilities. The emotional costs to families are high and so are the financial costs to families and their employers.
