Dine With A Doc events coming up

TERRE HAUTE — Senior Education Ministries Inc. has scheduled Rise and Shine Dine With A Doc from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Wabash Senior Citizens Center, 300 S. Fifth St. in Terre Haute.

Dine with a Doc is a free event that welcomes the local senior public to hear the doctor of the month present an educational topic while attendees enjoy a complimentary meal. You do not need to be a member of the Senior Center to come and participate. Just bring a questioning mind, an appetite and perhaps a friend. Each doctor has graciously donated this time in effort to listen, hear and answer your questions while sharing a meal with you.

The Dine with a Doc program was designed to allow the seniors to get out of their homes, fellowship with their peers, extend their available financial resources, promote enhanced living and educate them (from a preventive standpoint) with the goal of ensuring their quality of life and providing them with the resources and information to make an informed decision.

This month’s “Doc” is Michael E. Whitman, D.C., F.A.C.A.C.N. Whitman received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Logan College. He established a chiropractic practice in Brazil in 1975; a back and neck pain center in Brazil in 1993; and the Mid-West Institute of Health and Longevity.

Senior Education Ministries Inc. has scheduled Dine With A Doc-West Terre Haute from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the West Vigo Community Center, 127 W. Johnson Ave in West Terre Haute.

This month’s “Doc” is Roy W. Geib, Ph.D. Geib became interested in the hard-style martial arts as a teenager but did not have an opportunity to begin studying the martial arts until he was 40 years old. At that time, he and his children began studying Tae Kwon Do at the Augburn-Walden Family Dojo. He has earned black belts in Isshinryu Karate and Tae Kwon Do.

Geib. earned his doctorate in biomedical sciences from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas. His graduate research was in the area of transplantation biology under Dr. Jan Klein, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Immunogentics. He did a postdoctoral fellowship at Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY) with Dr. Frank Lilly (member of the National Academy of Science) where his research was in the area of virus-host interactions at the genetic level. Geib continued his studies in the area of virus-host interactions as a Senior Research Associate under the direction of Professor Linda Gooding at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He is currently working with a team of faculty and students to develop a wellness program for medical students at Indiana University School of Medicine-Terre Haute that will include Tai Chi/Qigong, as well as other mind-body activities based on the program developed by the Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, D.C.
