Vigo, Clay Ys switch to fall hours, announce offerings

TERRE HAUTE — The Vigo and Clay YMCAs have changed to fall/winter hours of 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Members should watch for changes in aerobic and aquatics schedules.

Upcoming programs and events:

• A new community wellness program at the Vigo County Y is made available through a grant from the United Way of the Wabash Valley. At no additional charge members can work with Ryan Daffer, the community wellness coordinator, who can help people set goals, along with evaluating their weekly progress and provide encouragement for them. For details call Daffer at Vigo County Y at (812) 232-8446.

• Register for youth basketball at the Clay County Y Monday through Oct. 15. Girls and boys from age 4 through eighth grades are eligible for the program. Games will be on Saturdays for the younger age groups beginning in mid November. The season will finish at the end of January. The cost is $32 for youth with a Y membership and $65 for nonmembers. Registration materials will be available Monday.

• Register a team for adult basketball and adult volleyball at the Clay County Y today through Oct. 9. Adult volleyball is played on weeknights; adult basketball is played on Sunday afternoons and evenings. Games will begin the first week of November. For details email atsports@claycountyymca.

• The Clay County Y is planning a Monster Dash 5K for Oct. 27, a fun run/walk that begins and ends at the Clay County Y. Participants and volunteers are encouraged to dress in costume (appropriate for the YMCA). The race begins at 6:30 p.m. Registration is $20 for early entry (before Oct. 24 and includes a race shirt). Late entry is $25 and runs from Oct. 24 through race day; shirts are not guaranteed for late entries. For details call 812-442-6761.
