TERRE HAUTE — The ISU Recreational Sports Department is offering swim lessons for all people ages 6 months through adult, and all skill levels from beginner to advanced swimmers.
The youth swimming lessons include parent/child levels, which familiarizes young children ages 6 months to 3 years in the water with parental assistance. The preschool aquatics level gives children ages 3 to 5 years their first experience in the water without parental assistance. A Saturday session will be offered begining March 20 and a Sunday Session will begin March 21. These sessions will run for six weeks.
The adult swimming lessons introduce water safety skills and knowledge to adults with very little or no swimming experience and builds on water safety skills/knowledge and enhances swimming techniques for adults who have had past swimming experience. The final adult session of the Spring 2010 semester will begin March 24. This session will run for 6 weeks.
Private lessons are available for interested parties who cannot fit group lessons into their busy schedules or just prefer one-on-one instruction. Private lessons are scheduled between the participant and the assigned instructor according to both of their schedules and the open Student Recreation Center pool hours (Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.).
Group lessons cost $40 per participant, per session; private lessons are $80 for four 45-minute lessons or $110 for six 45-minute lessons.
The ISU Recreational Sports Department also offers a number of American Red Cross Certification Courses such as lifeguard training, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, standard first aid and water safety instructor. All participants must be at least 16 years of age on the date the training course is scheduled:
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Full Course (Price: $50) — Final classes will be on March 15 and 22, April 17, and April 19/
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Re-certification Course (Price: $30) — Final classes will be March 21, April 18 and April 22
• Sports Safety Training/Standard First Aid (Price: $30) — Final classes will be March 27, April 21 and April 25.
• Lifeguard Training Full Course (Price: $150) — Classes begin on March 21.
• Lifeguard Training Re-certification Course (Price: $70) — Class will be May 1
• Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguarding Instructor Courses (Price: $150) — Class will begin on May 10.
