Organizations to offer free glaucoma screening

TERRE HAUTE — The Wabash Independent Living and Learning Center, Minority Health Coalition of Vigo County and the Riley Lions Club will offer free glaucoma screening for all ages from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Booker T. Washington Park Community Center, 1101 S. 13th St.

January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month, an important time to spread the word about this sight-stealing disease. Currently, 2.7 million people in the United States over age 40 have glaucoma. Among African-American and Latino populations, glaucoma is more prevalent.

The WILL Center is a nonprofit, nonresidential Independent Living Center in Terre Haute that helps people with all types of disabilities with free programs and services.

For more information, contact Danny Wayne Beemer or Jim Osborn of the WILL Center’s Low Vision Program at 812-298-9455, email dannywayne@thewill
