Vision loss meeting for veterans set

The Wabash Independent Living & Learning Center, Inc. will host a peer support meeting with Deanna Austin from the Indianapolis office of the Veterans Administration VIST program today.

The Visual Impairment Services Team coordinator works with veterans who have vision loss at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center.

Services include an annual review, monthly support group, and a quarterly newsletter. During this meeting Austin will provide an overview of the program and how this resource can benefit those who served in the military and their families.

The meeting will be 1 to 2 p.m. at Sycamore Manor, 222 S. 25th St., Terre Haute.

Rose offering swim lessons this summer

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology offers summer swim lessons to all ages, infants to adults, in the Rose-Hulman Sports and Recreation Center pool.

Group swim lessons are scheduled for: June 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22 or July 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 27. Lessons offered include a parent/child class as well as skill levels 1 through 4. Lessons times are 5-5:45 p.m. or 6-6:45 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Crawford Triathlon prep under way

Lincoln Trail College and Crawford Memorial Hospital are planning the Crawford County Triathlon to be conducted this spring.

A 175-meter swim will kick off the event at 8 a.m. May 26 in the LTC pool. It will be followed by a 12-mile bicycle ride and a 3-mile run. The competition is limited to 150 swimmers who will compete in the following male and female age groups: 18 to 28, 29 to 39, 40 to 50, 51 to 59, and 60 and older. Participants may compete individually or as a team.

Triathlon participant packet distribution and body marking will be 4-6 p.m. May 25 in the LTC cafeteria. Check-in will be 6:30-7:30 a.m. on  May 26, in the LTC cafeteria.

Individual entry fee is $60. Team entries are $85. Prospective volunteers and sponsors may also find information on the website and by “liking” Crawford County Triathlon on Facebook.

Vera Bradley Bingo fundraiser set

Vera Bradley handbags will be given to 20 bingo winners during Springhill Village’s Vera Bradley Bingo, a fundraising event that will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

The games will be May 15 at Springhill Village, 1001 E. Springhill Drive. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with bingo games starting at 6 p.m. Players will make a $20 donation to the Alzheimer’s Association to receive bingo cards. Additional cards will be available for an additional donation.

A raffle and door prizes are other highlights of the evening.

The event will be limited to 60 players.
