INShape Black & Minority Health Fair set

INDIANAPOLIS — Managed Health Services is sponsoring this year’s INShape Black & Minority Health Fair, hosted by the Indiana State Department of Health’s Office of Minority Health, July 19-22 at the Indiana Convention Center, Hall D, 100 S. Capitol Ave., Indianapolis.

Themed “Rethink, Reset, Restart Your Health,” it’s the 27th year for the health fair, which is part of the Indiana Black Expo’s Summer Celebration.

MHS will be onsite at the health fair, giving attendees the chance to “Ask an Expert” various health-related questions. MHS experts include MHS Chief Medical Officer Dr. Eric A. Yancy, a personal trainer, diabetic educator, obstetrics nurse, a nurse specializing in child immunizations and a presenter from MHS’ Children with Special Needs Unit. MHS also will offer members the opportunity to complete their Health Needs Screening onsite, and provide health-related information and giveaways. The MHS booth will be open at the following times:

• July 19: 4 to 8 p.m.

• July 20: 1 to 8 p.m.

• July 21: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• July 22: 12 to 6 p.m.

“We are honored to be a part of such a respected and impactful event that allows us to continue our mission to educate and empower the communities we serve,” said MHS CEO Patrick Rooney. “The MHS team will be on hand to answer any health questions for attendees who might not otherwise have the opportunity to speak with a medical practitioner.”

According to the Office of Minority Health, the core goal of the health fair is to increase minority awareness of chronic diseases and how to prevent them. Increasing minority awareness of diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, hypertension and cancer is not just the goal of the Office of Minority Health or of the Health Fair. The goal is also at the heart of the Indiana State Department of Health’s mission, which is to support Indiana’s economic prosperity and quality of life by promoting, protecting and providing for the health of Hoosiers in their communities.

MHS is Indiana-based health maintenance organization serving Hoosier Healthwise and the Healthy Indiana Plan. For more information about MHS, visit MHS online at mhsindiana.com.
