Learn how to detect warning signs of Alzheimer’s

TERRE HAUTE — “Know the 10 Signs,” a free workshop on detecting warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease, will be Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at The Wabash Senior Citizens Center in Terre Haute. The session requires registration by contacting the Association at 1-800-272-3900. The Wabash Senior Citizens Center is at 300 S. Fifth St.

The new program is designed by the Alzheimer’s Association, and has information designed to help people understand warning signs. The program also has interactive video clips of people living with Alzheimer’s.

“Dealing with Alzheimer’s disease can be very scary and confusing. Through this informational session, we hope to share with the local community the many programs and services that the Alzheimer’s Association has available to help,” said Kristi Ritchie, associate director of Community Relations for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Today, approximately 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, including 120,000 Hoosiers.

Every 70 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s disease, making Alzheimer’s disease the 6th leading cause of death. The direct and indirect costs of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia amount to more than $148 billion annually.

The Alzheimer’s Association is the world leader in Alzheimer’s research and support. Having awarded more than $150 million to nearly 1,300 research projects, the Alzheimer’s Association is the largest private funder of Alzheimer research.
