Tried 'n' True: Pumpkin biscuits when company comes calling

By Jackie Lindley

These biscuits are so good with eggs, casseroles or whatever you are serving. They are even good warmed over in the microwave and filled with butter or oleo.

I know Morton, Ill., has a big pumpkin festival but this recipe came from Circleville Pumpkin Festival. Try this for a different twist on an old favorite when holiday company comes calling.

Golden Pumpkin Biscuits

6 heaping tablespoons pumpkin

Spices and sugar to taste or pumpkin pie spices

2 cups flour

3/4 teaspoon salt

3 teaspoons baking powder

5 tablespoons margarine

1/2 to 2/3 cup milk

• Combine pumpkin, spices, flour, salt, baking powder and margarine; mixture will be crumbly.

• Add milk to make a soft dough, mixing just enough to make soft dough, and just enough to make ingredients hold together.

• Roll or pat out to desired thickness.

• Cut into desired shape.

• Bake at 425 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.

Makes about 12 biscuits.
