  The 2013 Banks of the Wabash Festival, scheduled May 23 through June 1 in Fairbanks Park, celebrates 40 years along the banks of the Wabash River, 30 under the sponsorship of the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department.

  Pioneers think counterintuitively. Where others see widespread apathy, they focus on the possibility for progress. In a way, the 2013 Year of the River celebration began in the 1970s.

  North baseball pulls away from South in sectional opener

  In high school baseball little things mean a lot, and the crack in the door doesn’t have to be open very wide.
  Terre Haute North burst through that crack in the bottom of the second inning Wednesday evening at Terre Haute South, scoring seven two-out runs and going on to a surprisingly easy 12-2 victory over the host Braves.

Reservations are required 24 hours in advance at all senior citizens dining sites in Vigo, Clay, Parke, Vermillion, Sullivan and Putnam counties. For dining site locations, call Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled nutrition program offices at 1-800-489-1561.

Nov. 5-9

Monday: chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes, spinach, bread with jelly, Mandarin oranges, milk, coffee or tea.                

Tuesday: cheeseburger, Brussels sprouts, corn, bun, tropical fruit, milk, coffee or tea.

Wednesday: onion sage chicken, peas, cauliflower, bread with margarine, citrus cup, milk, coffee or tea.

Thursday: sausage gravy, potatoes O’Brien, stewed tomatoes, biscuit, orange juice, milk, coffee or tea.

Friday, Veterans Day Meal: Salisbury steak with sauce, hominy, broccoli with cheese sauce, bread with margarine, mixed fruit, cake, milk, coffee or tea.

  I always liked Granola bars. Also Granola, to eat by handful. Pat Coolley always keeps granola on hand to nibble on. I don’t like raisins so I use dried cherries or cranberries instead. Instead of brown sugar use Splenda or your choice. I also use sugar-free syrup. So my husband, Gene, can eat these bars, too. This recipe comes from Rose Hill Community Church.
