RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS: Feb. 20, 2012

TERRE HAUTE — All food inspections by the Vigo County Health Department are scored on a critical and non-critical system.

To make the scores easier to comprehend:

A critical item is one that is likely to contribute to food contamination or food-borne illness.

A non-critical item is a violation that is less likely to cause food contamination or an illness but is undesirable in a food establishment.

Jan. 30-Feb. 3, 2012

Ryan’s No. 2333, 5501 S. U.S. 41 (6 Critical, 7 Non-Critical). Observed dishwasher touching dirty dishes then touching clean dishes without washing hands and changing gloves; cubed chicken, 7-bean salad, chicken salad, cantaloupe and honeydew melon found at 47 to 60 degrees — should be 41 degrees or less (discarded); taco toppings found at 80 degrees — should be 41 degrees or less (discarded); ham and raw hamburgers found at 55 degrees at Mongolian bar, lo mein noodles and raw beef found at 49 to 57 degrees — should be 41 degrees or less (discarded); found dirty tongs hanging on clean rack and food debris on table mounted can opener; storage racks for clean plates and plastic containers found with accumulated food debris. Voluntarily closed until follow-up Feb. 2, 2012.

Denny’s Restaurant No. 138, 233 S. Third St. (4 Critical, 2 Non-Critical) Raw chicken in drawer next to cheese and chips; knives in rack, tongs hanging on rack, dishes on clean end of dishwasher and drinking glasses observed with debris; no sanitizer measured in wiping cloth bucket; handwash sink on south end of grill observed with debris.

McDonald’s, 3032 Wabash Ave. (2 Critical, 1 Non-Critical). Lobby soda nozzles found with black debris, pass through trays found with greasy film; handwash sink at counter found unclean.

Sunrise Family Restaurant, PKRN Inc., 2949 S. Fifth St. (1 Critical, 2 Non-Critical). Prepared food in walk-in not date marked.

Stables Steakhouse, 939 Poplar St. (1 Critical, 2 Non-Critical). No sanitizer measured in warewashing machine.

St Mary’s Supper Club & Catering, 3700 N. Arms Place (1 Critical, 1 Non-Critical). Sauerkraut salad, chicken and noodles, gravy and rice held past date of consumption (discarded).

Giovanni’s Pizza, 1532 Wabash Ave. (1 Critical, 1 Non-Critical). Sliced ham and cooked pasta not date marked.

Starbucks, 4900 S. U.S. 41 (1 Critical, 1 Non-Critical). Found two bottles of toxic substances stored with coffee filters, gloves and tissue paper.

Louise’s Downtown Café, 727 Wabash Ave. (1 Critical, 1 Non-Critical). Ham, chicken breasts and bacon held past 7 day marker.

Sodexho Services, St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, P.O. Box 130 (1 Critical, 1 Non-Critical). Found uncovered employee drink on shelf above prep table.

The Pit Stop, 6321 N. Clinton St. (1 Critical). Certified Food Handler expired.

Marathon Express Mart No. 6, 2455 Lafayette Ave. (1 Critical). Hot dogs found at 105 degrees — should be 135 degrees or above.

Show-Me’s, 2324 S. Third St. (1 Critical). Gumbo found at 125 degrees — should be 135 degrees or above (discarded).
