Try-Athlon returning to Shakamak State Park in August

The Friends of Shakamak, Shakamak Schools, Greene County Education Services, and Sycamore Trails RC&D are teaming up to sponsor the second annual “Totally Tubular Try-Athlon” at Shakamak State Park on Aug. 4.

This unique event provides a competitive and fun way to help raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

The Totally Tubular Try-Athlon is comprised of three events, but with a friendlier and less strenuous approach than the typical triathlon. The events include: a 3-mile bike ride around the park, a one-half mile swim across the lake wearing an inner-tube of your choosing, and a 1.5 mile run/walk.

Anyone 13 years or older can compete, either as an individual, or get a couple of friends together and compete as a team of 3. Registration is $10 per person, and early registrants will receive a participants T-shirt. Early registration deadline is Friday.

The race begins at 9:30 a.m. in Shakamak State Park, about 25 miles southeast of Terre Haute. Information, registration materials, and donation forms can all be found at www.shakamak.k12.in.us or visit the Friends of Shakamak on Facebook.

More information is also available by emailing JDaniels@shakamak.k12.in.us or calling (812) 891-3035.
