  AAA: 31.2M drivers to take Memorial Day road trip

  It's going to be another busy Memorial Day weekend on the nation's highways. From Thursday through Monday, 31.2 million Americans will drive 50 miles or more to a beach, campground or other getaway, according to car lobbying group AAA.

• 

  Banks of the Wabash Festival is more than just yearly entertainment

  Pioneers think counterintuitively. Where others see widespread apathy, they focus on the possibility for progress. In a way, the 2013 Year of the River celebration began in the 1970s.

  North baseball pulls away from South in sectional opener

  In high school baseball little things mean a lot, and the crack in the door doesn’t have to be open very wide.
  Terre Haute North burst through that crack in the bottom of the second inning Wednesday evening at Terre Haute South, scoring seven two-out runs — all unearned — and going on to a surprisingly easy 12-2 victory over the host Braves in Class 4A sectional action.

TERRE HAUTE — All restaurant inspections by the Vigo County Health Department are scored on a critical and non-critical system.

To make the scores easier to comprehend:

A critical item is one that is likely to contribute to food contamination or food-borne illness.

A non-critical item is a violation that is less likely to cause food contamination or an illness but is undesirable in a food establishment.

Today's inspections list includes the week of July 18-22

Golden Corral #2499 — 10 W. Johnson Drive — (7 Critical, 7 Non-Critical) Employee observed touching clean stainless steel pans after loading dirty dishes without washing hands; shredded cheese, sliced cheese and pepperoni in pizza toppings cooler found at 54-57 degrees — should be 41 degrees or less; cooked shrimp observed with puddled water dripping from cooler in meat room, pan of raw chicken in standing water in fryer area cooler; pans of dripping water observed over food storage in meat room and salad cooler; in hot bar area found debris on utensils hanging on clean rack and dirty knives hanging on knife rack, slicer blades and plastic containers at salad bar unclean; employee washing knives in handwash sink in meat room; fruit flies observed throughout bakery.

  Harry Taylor witnessed it firsthand.
  Robinson wore jersey No. 42 for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Taylor wore 41. Both were 28-year-old rookies, considerably older than most. Taylor got delayed by military service in World War II. Professional baseball’s unwritten but ironclad code of racial discrimination had kept Robinson and other African-Americans out of the majors since the 1880s.
