TableScapes spotlights designers; 3-day event starts Feb. 21

TERRE HAUTE — A record number of designers are participating in this year’s TableScapes, Arts Illiana’s annual, three-day fundraising event featuring themed dinner settings that are elegant, whimsical and sometimes funny — but always inventive. Designers compete for a variety of awards, including the coveted People’s Choice award.

A TableScapes preview evening dedicated to the talented designers — a cross section of businesses, organizations and individuals who have decorated tables that communicate a variety of creative themes — is planned from 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Country Club of Terre Haute, at 57 Allendale.

Preview attendees will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and the high-energy sounds of The Flying Jacksons. This evening is the first glimpse of this year’s tables, and opens one of the best silent auctions in the Wabash Valley. Meet and mingle with the designers, and enjoy the party atmosphere of the gala opening.

Then, the public is encouraged to drop in for TableScapes’ Daily Viewings on Feb. 22 and 23, where for $5, individuals can view the tables and vote for their favorite. Daily Viewing visitors may also view and bid on silent auction items (silent auction winners do not have to be present on Saturday evening to win). The Vigo County Public Library will be providing free copies of the Wabash Valley 2013 Big Read book, “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” Daily Viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 22, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 23.

TableScapes culminates with Dinner on the Scapes from 6 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 23. Patrons will have the opportunity to feast at a designed table with cuisine prepared by Chef Shelby and the Country Club of Terre Haute. Dinner patrons can enjoy the evening’s music provided by popular guitarist Kade Puckett. The award-winning table designs will be revealed and winners of silent auction items will be announced. Wabash Valley artist and art educator Chuck Waggoner is designing the awards.

TableScapes is made possible by sponsors Old National Bank, WTHI and My Fox 10, Vigo County Public Library/NEA’s Big Read, the Country Club of Terre Haute, and a host of table designers who are celebrating the arts community.
