EIU readies love songs for Valentine’s Day

Charleston, Ill. — With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Eastern Illinois University’s Choral Ensembles are planning to celebrate the majesty of love. Joining the choral ensembles will be the early music ensemble Collegium Musicum. The concert will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, in Doudna Fine Arts Center’s Dvorak Concert Hall.

The concert will feature the University Mixed Chorus under the direction of Janet McCumber and the Concert Choir under the direction of Richard Robert Rossi. Featured accompanists will be Austin Stout, Derek Maninfior and Patrick Ward.

The first half of the program will feature the University Mixed Chorus performing David N. Childs’ “The Moon is Distant from the Sea,” the old English folksong “O, No John” and Gustav Holst’s “Homeland.”

The Concert Choir’s portion of the concert will feature a special presentation of Johannes Brahms’ “Liebeslieder Walzer (Lovesong Waltzes).” Other musical selections will include David Dickau’s “Echo,” Eric Thiman’s “Go, Lovely Rose,” and the world premiere performance of Rossi’s “O Mistress Mine, Where Are You Roaming.”

Accessible parking is located near the main entrance to the fine arts center, and the concert hall is accessible to those with special needs.

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Doudna Fine Arts Center box office. The box office is open 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday and one hour before the scheduled performance.
