Linton’s Frightmares Haunted House offers up scares all month

LINTON — The theme of the 2012 Frightmares Haunted House in Linton is “In The Movies” and focuses on concepts that guests may be familiar with from their favorite Hollywood horrors.

Guests will enter into their worst “Frightmares” through an innovative entrance design and will travel through a series of nightmares that stimulate all of the guest’s senses and bring out fears that may have been suppressed since childhood.

Alex and Cristy Phipps, along with Kegan Inman, have been diligently planning the 2012 season since November and are sure that it will top their 2011 season. The design has been adjusted from last year and has allowed for a doubling in the amount of rooms.

“We expect the size to grow from 16 scenes last year to over 30 this year. Our guests want a longer experience and that is what we are giving them,” Inman said.

During the 2011 season, the haunted house raised funds for the Greene County Humane Society and attracted more than 2,000 visitors.

In 2012, the haunted house hopes to more than double both its attendance and contribution.

The 2012 season is under way through Oct. 31, open every Friday and Saturday in October and Oct. 30 and 31. Kid-friendly trick-or-treating will be offered before the haunted house opens Oct. 30 and 31.

The Indiana Blood Center will be on location Oct. 20 to take donations, an effort by the management to have a positive impact on more parts of the community. It is expected that guests who donate blood can receive a discount off their ticket purchase as an incentive to get out and donate.

Also scheduled is local Internet star Dr. Sigmund Zoid, who hosts sci-fi and horror films on Alternate Realities, an Internet television station. Zoid will grace the haunt with live appearances on Saturday and Oct. 20.

A new addition to the 2012 season will be “nyctophobia.” Nyctophobia is the severe fear of the dark, and Frightmares plans to give guests a special night on Oct. 25 to experience the haunted house with no light other than a glow stick.

All the monsters will still be there, and guests will be forced to navigate their way through the haunt only by the use of a glow stick.

The haunted house is off Indiana 54 west in Linton at 688 A St. NW, west of Southern Indiana Work Wear and just across the highway from Pizza Villa.

Tickets are $8 for regular admission and $16 for fast pass VIP. Preseason ticket sales will be available on the Frightmares website at a discounted rate.
