TERRE HAUTE —
For most people, birthdays are a time for receiving gifts. However, for Aaron “Pup” Syester of MHH Productions, the anniversary of his birth has become a time to give.
Each year, Syester organizes a birthday concert to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Started in 2007 as Metal for Kids, the benefit show originally consisted of only metal bands. The show, now Rock for Kids, was transformed in 2009 to encompass several genres of music with all proceeds going to St. Jude.
Last year, $1,200 was raised, totaling almost $5,000 in donations over the last five years. This year’s show is set to raise even more money by including a raffle for prizes, as well as a 50/50 drawing. This year’s participating bands are The Crow Cannons, The HANIS Project, Pale Horse and Join The Living.
The concert will take place on Saturday at Ol’ Simrells (804 S. Seventh St., Terre Haute) beginning at 9 p.m. Entry will be $5 at the door, 21 and over, and 100 percent of the night’s proceeds are given to St. Jude.

Kick off summer with Banks of Wabash Festival tonight
