Vigo County Fair announces new event: The Vocalist

TERRE HAUTE — The Wabash Valley Fair Association, FTC Productions Inc. and The Conservatory of Music have teamed up to bring a new and exciting grandstand event to the 2012 Vigo County Fair.

The Vocalist, a solo vocalist talent competition, is open to anyone 14 years of age or older. Each contestant must submit a CD of his/her performing, along with an official completed entry form to The Conservatory of Music at 470 W. Honey Creek Drive Terre Haute, IN 47802 by June 9.

“[We] are so excited to be able to help spotlight some of the great talent that can be found in the Wabash Valley. We hope there will be an overwhelming response to this contest, and we are looking forward to hearing and meeting the aspiring vocalists of the Wabash Valley that decide to be a part of this great opportunity” said Ron Cook, president of the Conservatory of Music.

The preliminary round will be judged by a panel, and the top 25 contestants will be selected to go on to round 2. The winners of round 2 will be announced on June 20. From these contestants, the top 10 contestants will be selected and announced on June 27.

For the final round the top 10 contestants will compete in a live performance in front of the grandstands during the 83rd annual Vigo County Fair on July 11. The audience will also have a vote in choosing The Vocalist. Each admission to the grandstand event on July 11 will receive a ballot to cast for their favorite performer.

“We are thrilled about this competition. … We know there is a tremendous amount of talent right here in the Wabash Valley. The prizes are exciting and we know it will be a great experience for the talent as well as the audience,” said Jennifer Cook, Wabash Valley Fair Association president.

An entry form, a list of the rules and prize list may be picked up at the Conservatory of Music or online at www.theconservatoryofmusic.com or www.vigofair.com.
