The “I Lost My Marbles Bike Show,” benefitting the Vermillion County Boys Home, is planned for July 28 at the Vermillion County Fairgrounds in Cayuga. All times are EDT.
There will be two fun run rides during the day before and after the bike show. Rides are free to enter. Dash plaques will be awarded for first 100 registered bikes.
On the schedule:
• 9 a.m. — Registration for morning Fun Run at the American Legion Hall in Danville, Ill.
• 10 a.m. — Ride departs
• 11 a.m. — Registration for Bike Show at Vermillion County Fairgrounds
• 11:30 a.m. — Fun Run riders arrive at the fairgrounds
• Noon — Bike Show voting begins; food/drink stands open
• 1:30 p.m. — Voting closes
• 1:30 p.m. — Rides to boys within the fairgrounds
• 2:30 p.m. — Presentation of awards
• 3 p.m. — Briefing for Fun Run ride
• 3:15 to 6 p.m. — Ride begins and ends at fairgrounds

A stunning array of wildflowers covers the 21-acre lawn for a few short weeks. Those plants, known as “spring beauties,” emerge in March, bloom in April and go dormant by May, when the brilliant waves of white and pink flowers disappear. -

Harry Taylor witnessed it firsthand.
Robinson wore jersey No. 42 for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Taylor wore 41. Both were 28-year-old rookies, considerably older than most. Taylor got delayed by military service in World War II. Professional baseball’s unwritten but ironclad code of racial discrimination had kept Robinson and other African-Americans out of the majors since the 1880s. -
