Tried 'n' True: Try this sugarless apple crisp pie

By Jackie Lindley

With all these apples on hand my husband, Gene, suggested a sugarless pie. It is almost like a crisp but it’s a pie.

Everyone is sure to enjoy it. Just don’t tell them that it is sugarless.

You want to start with either store-bought or your own oven pastry crust. You could add a few more apples and use a double crust.

Sugar-free Apple Crisp Pie

6 ounces frozen apple juice, thawed

2 tablespoons cornstarch

4 delicious apples, peeled, sliced

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

• Boil apple juice and cornstarch for four minutes or until thickened.

• Mix apple slices and spices; add to thickened apple juice and cook one minute longer.

• Pour in uncooked pie shell and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

Crumb Topping

1/3 cup oatmeal

1 tablespoon margarine

1/3 cup flour

• Mix and sprinkle on top of pie when done, then bake 10 to 12 minutes longer.
