Arts Illiana Summer Exhibition opening reception coming up


Arts Illiana will present the artwork of talented Wabash Valley artists during the Summer Exhibition opening reception.

Art work in the Summer Exhibition includes beautiful and inspiring paintings, drawings, photography and more. In addition, Arts Illiana’s Sales Gallery also offers a great selection of jewelry, pottery, greeting cards, and other unique and original items. All art work in the exhibit is for sale.

The reception will also feature music by the husband-wife duo, Dave Goodier and Christina Blust, members of the popular local music group, Yearbook Committee. The exhibition opening reception will be on from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Marshall band concert set


The Marshall (Ill.) City Band, under the direction of Ralph Stewart, will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Friday on the Clark County Courthouse lawn.

Included in the concert are “Olympic Fanfare and Theme,” “The Syncopated Clock,” “Vaudeville Favorites,” “You Decorated My Life,” “Lullaby of Birdland,” “Lassus Trombone,” highlights from “Oklahoma,” and “Hello My Baby.”  The concert will continue with “Ragged Rozey,” “Themes from Offenbach,” “One” from “A Chorus Line,” “Little Brown Jug,” “Colonel Bogey,” and close with the playing of “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Concerts are free and open to the public. Bring lawn chairs.

June 30

Fish fry planned in Center Point


Center Point Volunteer Fire Department will present a fish fry at 4:30 p.m. June 30 at the firehouse on Main Street.

There will be drive-through pickup at the rear of the firehouse. The meal will include Jonah-club fried fish, baked beans, homemade slaw, green beans, apple sauce, homemade pies and cakes, abnd ice tea or coffee. The costs are $8 for adults and $5 for children.

There also will be live entertainment, a dunking booth, ring toss, and heavy weight horse pull starting at 8 p.m.

This is the fire department’s main revenue for the year to keep the department operating.

June 30

Summer Fest coming up


Summer Fest is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. June 30 at the House of Hope at 5525 W. U.S. 40, just west of Brazil.

The event will feature live music from Soul Patrol and Hearts-A-Fire Choir as well as a bike cruise-in with Unchained Gang, CMA and motorcycle ministries. All bikers are welcome.

There also will be a cook-out and bake sale. A $5 donation will cover each platter served with all donations going to support the ministry.

Saturday

Fundraiser set to fight cancer


A fundraising party for Aubree Bonawitt is planned for 4 p.m. Saturday at Deming Park’s Larrison Pavilion.

Bonawitt has Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer. The fundraiser will provide support and help cover her medical costs. Raffles, silent auction, 50/50 drawing, food, live music and face painting will be available.

A car raffle at $25 each ticket is planned and features a 1996 BMW 328i donated by Toyota of Terre Haute.

Register now for Fast Track Mile


The Wabash Valley Road Runners Club’s annual Fast Track Mile is coming up July 4.

Checkin and late registration will be from 7-8 a.m. at Gilbert Park. The race starts near Third Street and Wabash Avenue and ends at Gilbert Park at 8:15 a.m. for the men’s race and 8:30 a.m. for the women’s race and the co-ed walk.

Overall awards, age group awards, team awards and a special prize for most patriotic running attire will be awarded. There is no race day registration for teams.

Pre-registration cost is $6 for youth 18 and under and $14 for adults. Add $4 for race day registration.

Applications are available at WVRR.org.

All proceeds from the race go to the Wabash Valley Roadrunner Club Scholarship Fund.

Dinner planned in Fontanet


The Fontanet Community Action Team  will host a turkey or beef Manhattan dinner from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Fontanet Community Center/firehouse. The cost will include freewill donation.

Fund to help Rosedale native


A special fund has been established at all area First Financial Banks to help Jeff Huxford and his family after the Rosedale native suffered serious injuries in an automobile accident near his home in northern Indiana on May 3.

Along with the account, a fundraising dinner and silent auction will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rosedale Firehouse to also help Huxford. Donations for Huxford can be sent to any First Financial Bank, including the one at Rosedale at 62 E. Central St., Rosedale, IN 47874.  

Donations of desserts to serve at the dinner and silent auction items will be gladly accepted. For more information about the benefit, or to donate to it, contact Angie Stutler Wittenmeyer at angnjason@hotmail.com.
