Miracle on 7th Street sign-up deadlines near

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute will celebrate the holidays Dec. 7 with the fourth annual Miracle on 7th Street. Festivities include an open air marketplace, gallery openings, wreath and poinsettia sales, holiday music, a gingerbread house contest and more.

Merchants (with locations between Poplar and Cherry streets and First and 14th streets) are invited to participate in a Holiday Window Decorating Contest. Judges will view windows on Dec. 6 and announce the winner on Dec. 7. First prize is a free advertisement in either the Tribune-Star or Terre Haute Living; second prize is a free stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. Registration must be submitted by Nov. 28 to River Wools at 671 Wabash, Terre Haute, IN 47807.

The gingerbread house decorating contest is limited to 45 entries, seven of which will be reserved for schools and will be distributed through the Vigo County Public School Corp. central office. Three entries are reserved for Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and Indiana State University.

Thirty-five business (including nonprofit) entries are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and entries must be received by Nov. 21.

A reception is planned from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at The Ohio Building. Each entrant will receive five tickets to invite their supporters to the reception. At 7 p.m. The Ohio Building will be open to the public to view and vote for the houses. The houses will be open to viewing by the public from 5 to 10 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Indiana Theatre. There will be prizes for the entrants and the proceeds will go to St. Benedict’s Soup Kitchen, 14th and Chestnut Community Center, the Salvation Army and the Tribune-Star Christmas Basket Fund.

The tree decorating contest, Miracle Christmas Trees, has trees available to be decorated by nonprofit organizations. Organizations will be picked on a first-come, first-serve basis and entries must be received by Nov. 28. The trees will surround the vendor tents at Seventh and Wabash. Entrants must use lights in their decoration; electricity will be provided. Participating organizations will receive $100 with the winning organization receiving $500. The Breakfast Optimist Club is providing the trees.

Registration forms are available on the Miracle on 7th Street Facebook Page and at River Wools, Boo’s Crossroads Café, Heinl’s Flower Shop and the Swope Art Museum downtown.
