Festival offers homestyle food, fireworks, live entertainment

ROSEDALE — Join into the delectable energy and Hoosier hospitality at the Rosedale Strawberry Festival, Friday through Sunday.

Featuring Indiana’s best home-baked strawberry shortcakes, this festival will serve up homestyle food and drink by nonprofit organizations daily, along with tempting festival fare. Contests will range from pageants to pets, crafts to models, and strawberry eating to a full talent competition. Throw in a parade and fireworks, and there’s something for all ages. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. Friday, continue 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and go from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Music will be provided free under the stage tent all weekend. Nationally recognized recording artist Dane Bailey will be performing all three days. Dubbed “the singing auctioneer,” Bailey will both entertain and MC during Friday evening’s queen scholarship pageant finals.

Friday evening will rock on to country band 90 Proof of Danville, Ill. On Saturday evening the energetic trio Trouble & Company will provide a blast from the past with choreographed song from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Sunday’s stage will begin at noon as Gospel Homecoming provides a non-denominational musical salute to faith. Sunday stage highlights will also including a performance by Leroy Driscoll, Indianapolis’ award-winning singing policeman. The Right Spirit Band from Indianapolis will wrap up the festival.

The Big Kidz Toyz expo, along with the annual craft show and sale, on Friday will feature working model railroad scene sets provided by members of the Indiana Model Railroad Association. On Saturday the expo will expand to include radio-controlled race cars, including Formula One racers, running heats toward a final trophy. Saturday afternoon will offer radio-controlled airplanes, both large and small, in flights and contests. Sunday afternoon’s segment offers the Classic Car, Truck, Cycle and Heap show where vehicle enthusiasts compete for trophies ranging all the way down to “You Really Drove That Thing Here??”

Spearheaded by nonprofit Stewards of the Rosedale Community, the festival will also include an honor parade at 5 p.m. Saturday and fireworks at dusk. Organized in December 2009, the all-volunteer SRC exists to assist with community needs of its southwest Parke County region. Proceeds will go to support those projects.
